Situated
20 km. to the west of Almería, Roquetas de Mar, is one of
the driest places in Europe and the sun shines almost 320 days
a year. It is about 80 kilometres from Sierra Nevada, has long
sandy beaches and is a splendid place to spend some unforgettable
holidays.
Roquetas de Mar is also famous for its golf courses and nautical
sports and offers a wide range of activities for all tastes and
interests.
BEACHES
Aguadulce Beach
It is 2,930 m long, 25 m wide and has a promenade all along
the beach.
The sea is calm and it has white average size grain sand.
It is watched over by the Red Cross, who have a base here, and
the Police. The areas which are considered dangerous are signposted.
It has been awarded the Blue Flag for several years consecutively.
Serena Beach
This beach is 1,510 m long, has an average width of 50 m and
has golden fine grain sand.
The beach is watched over by the Police and the Red Cross, who
have a rescue boat and an aid station. The areas which are considered
dangerous are signposted.
It has been awarded the Blue Flag for several years consecutively.
Around the beach there are hotels, apartments, beach kiosks,
seasonal kiosks and restaurants.
Urbanización Beach
It is 2,390 m long, has an average width of 48 m and has golden
fine grain sand.
The beach is watched over by the Police and the Red Cross, who
have a rescue boat and an aid station.
It was awarded the Blue Flag in 2002.
La Bajadilla Beach
It is 410 m long, 18 m wide and has golden large grain sand and
rocks.
Around the beach there is accommodation and restaurants.
Cerrillos Beach
This beach is 7,400 m long, has an average width of 40 m and
has white fine grain sand and gravel.
Nude bathing takes place in some areas of the beach.
GASTRONOMY
Products from the sea and market produce combine to offer a
wide variety of dishes. Seafood occupies a preferential
place and
traditional dishes are served, such as Arroz a banda
(fish with rice), moraga
de sardines (sardines in white wine), ajoblanco (soup),
ajo colorao (vegetables with garlic) and encebollao (cod).
